RHETORICAL FIGURES IN PRINT ADVERTISING

Rethorical figures are non conventional ways to use words or images that can make them specially expressive. They are oftenly used in printed ads making them more original and inspirational.

It allows the advertiser to avoid long texts and try to be more visual and also make the receptor be more interactive and think about what is the message he or she is looking at.

Besides the most common metaphor, there are plenty of them that can contribute with the redundancy, emphasis or comparison, between others.

I have looked for some good examples and I include a little bit of explanation under them but I invite you to guess which figure is been used before reading the text.

Personification: With his figure human characteristics are given to animals.

Ellipsis: with this figure there is an intentional omission of something, that makes us think about it.       There is something that is not showed.

Comparison: This figure is comparing two elements that have a element is common.

Hiperboles: it consists on exaggerate things.

Metaphor: Implicit comparison is made between two unlike things that actually have something in common.

Hope you liked it! Thanks for your attention!

MARK RYDEN

Another artist that is subject of my deep admiration is the American painter Mark Ryden.

If there is something beyond the sublimity, over there is where his work is.

He has created a singular style mixing the reminiscent techniques of the old masters with themes of the Pop culture and choosing subjects matter loaded of cultural connotation.
Some people name his work as "Pop Surrealism".

The viewer is confronted with the shocking contrast of the childhood innocence and the mysterious and dark recesses of the soul.

His paintings have been exhibited in museums and galleries worldwide and they could be well described as..... an achingly beautiful work.

LA NUIT BLANCHE

A few time ago, navigating on the web, I got the chance to discover "La Nuit Blanche".
It is an amazing short film, directed by Arev Manoukian and probably, the most beautiful four minutes I have ever seen.

The film recently won the Grand Prize at the LG Film Festival in Toronto and the Golden Nica at Prix Ars in Europe.

Nuit Blanche explores a fleeting moment between two strangers in the street, revealing their brief connection in a hyper real fantasy.
Such an inspirational video!

It is describing how our imagination is able to create wonderful scenes and the visual effects to show this fact are absolutely fantastic and meticulous.

All I have mentioned, mixed with a wonderful music and the elegance use of "black and whites", makes this video a present for our senses.

Enjoy it!
